Zendesk Sell Retirement: The Official Timeline

On September 9, 2025, Zendesk announced it will retire Zendesk Sell — the sales CRM it acquired as Base CRM in 2018 — to concentrate its investment on customer and employee service products. Here are the official dates, what happens to your data, and why the practical deadline arrives well before August 2027.

The Official Dates

  • September 9, 2025 Zendesk publicly announced the retirement of Zendesk Sell and the Sell mobile app, and named Pipedrive as its recommended migration partner.
  • Until August 31, 2027 Existing Sell customers retain full access to the product as usual, per Zendesk's announcement.
  • Your subscription end date If your Sell subscription ends before the retirement date, Zendesk's Service Data Deletion Policy applies from that point — data deletion can begin when your subscription ends, whichever comes first.
  • August 31, 2027 Zendesk Sell and the Sell mobile app are retired. Data deletion begins for all remaining Sell data and, per Zendesk, is permanent and cannot be reversed.

One date Zendesk has not published: as of August 2026, the retirement announcement does not state a cutoff for new purchases or a renewal policy for contracts extending past August 31, 2027. If your renewal is approaching, contact Zendesk directly (your Success Manager or Zendesk Customer Support) about your term, early-termination options, and any transition support.

What "Retirement" Actually Means for Your Business

The software turns off — it doesn't just lose support

Unlike an on-premises product reaching end of support, Zendesk Sell is a cloud service. On August 31, 2027 the product and its mobile app stop being available. There is no option to keep running an unsupported copy.

Your data is deleted, permanently

Per Zendesk's announcement, all Zendesk Sell data will be deleted under the Zendesk Service Data Deletion Policy — either when your Sell subscription ends or starting August 31, 2027, whichever comes first. Zendesk states that once deletion begins, it is permanent and cannot be reversed. The practical implication: export before you cancel, not after.

The export doesn't cover everything

Zendesk's export tool (Settings > Data > Export, available to admins and users with export permission) produces CSV files covering leads, contacts, deals, notes, tasks, smart lists, full account data, and the Total Sales report. But per Zendesk's own documentation, activity history, appointments, emails, call logs, and documents cannot be exported, and some system fields are only available through smart-list export. Exports remain downloadable for 30 days after creation.

Every month on Sell adds unexportable history

This is the quiet cost of waiting. The emails your reps log, the calls they make through Sell's built-in dialer, the documents they attach — none of it will travel to your next system through the export. Teams that move early carry more of their institutional memory with them (by capturing what matters manually while they still have access); teams that move late lose more of it.

Zendesk's recommended path: Pipedrive

Zendesk has partnered with Pipedrive — a market-leading sales CRM with an established Zendesk integration — and Pipedrive has built migration tools for Sell customers. To be fair and clear: for a pure sales team at a service business, Pipedrive is a credible, purpose-built CRM and the lowest-friction path. Our case on the comparison page is aimed at a different reader — businesses that make, stock, or ship products, for whom a standalone CRM (Sell or its replacement) is only one tool in a patchwork.

Why You Shouldn't Wait Until 2027

A small-team CRM migration is measured in weeks, not years — typically 1–3 months from decision to steady state, including data export, mapping, import, configuration, and rep training. That makes it tempting to defer. Resist the temptation, for three reasons: first, the unexportable-data problem compounds monthly. Second, if your renewal lands before August 2027, your real deadline is your renewal date, and data deletion can begin when the subscription ends. Third, as the shutdown approaches, every Sell customer will be migrating at once — support queues, migration services, and your own team's attention will all be stretched.
