Zendesk Sell Retirement: Frequently Asked Questions
Short, sourced answers to the questions Sell customers ask most — about dates, data, Pipedrive, and what evaluating Totaum looks like.
When is Zendesk Sell being retired?
Zendesk announced on September 9, 2025 that Zendesk Sell and the Sell mobile app will be retired on August 31, 2027. Customers retain full access until that date. See the full timeline with sources.
What happens to my Zendesk Sell data after the shutdown?
Per Zendesk's announcement, all Sell data will be deleted under the Zendesk Service Data Deletion Policy — either when your Sell subscription ends or starting August 31, 2027, whichever comes first. Zendesk states that once deletion begins it is permanent and cannot be reversed. Practical consequence: export your data before you cancel.
What data can I export from Zendesk Sell?
The export (Settings > Data > Export, for admins and users with export permission) produces CSV files covering leads, contacts, deals, notes, tasks, smart lists, full account data, and the Total Sales report. Per Zendesk, activity history, appointments, emails, call logs, and documents cannot be exported, and some system fields are available only via smart-list export. Exports stay downloadable for 30 days after creation.
Should I just migrate to Pipedrive?
Maybe! Pipedrive is Zendesk's official migration partner, with purpose-built migration tools for Sell customers, and it's a well-regarded pure sales CRM. For a service business whose deals end at a signed contract, it's the lowest-friction path. If you make, stock, or ship products, though, consider whether this forced migration could consolidate CRM, quoting, inventory, and accounting into one system instead of landing you in another standalone CRM that still needs QuickBooks and an inventory tool bolted on. See the side-by-side comparison, which covers Pipedrive fairly.
What is Totaum?
Totaum is a cloud ERP for product businesses. It combines CRM (accounts, contacts, kanban deal pipeline, activities, two-way email sync for Microsoft 365 and Gmail, email sequences with auto-stop on reply, lead capture and routing, revenue forecasting, workflow automations), quotes that check live stock, sales orders, invoices with online payment links, commissions, inventory with lot and serial tracking, purchasing with three-way match, manufacturing (BOMs, work orders, MRP), a full double-entry general ledger, and AI document intake that reads customer PO and vendor bill PDFs — in one system.
Does Totaum have built-in calling like Zendesk Sell?
No. Totaum has no built-in dialer — calls are logged as activities, and your existing phone system stays in place. Sell's built-in calling was genuinely distinctive, and teams that depend on it should weigh this gap honestly. (Also worth knowing: per Zendesk, Sell call logs cannot be exported no matter where you migrate.)
Does Totaum sync my email the way Sell did?
Yes — two-way email sync is shipped for Microsoft 365 and Gmail. Connect your mailbox and email with your CRM contacts logs itself against accounts and deals; compose and reply from Totaum thread natively in both directions. Privacy posture: only contact-matched messages are stored, and mail between coworkers is never logged. One timing note: Gmail connections are rolling out through Google's app-verification process — Microsoft 365 is open now.
What does Totaum cost?
Totaum's pricing is published: $49 / $79 / $110 per user per month billed annually ($56 / $91 / $127 month-to-month), shop-floor operators and service technicians free, and no required implementation fee — see totaum.com/pricing. For comparison purposes, count the full stack you'd be retiring: your CRM seat cost plus the separate quoting, inventory, and accounting tools around it.
How long does a migration off Zendesk Sell take?
Plan for 1–3 months from decision to steady state for a small team — export, mapping, import, configuration, and training. The stronger argument for starting now isn't the calendar; it's that every additional month of Sell use adds emails, calls, and activity history that cannot be exported later. The migration guide breaks down each phase, starting with the export you should run this week.
